Tom Dixon and Adidas

            After designing all sorts of furniture and, since last year, accessories for Eclectic, Tom Dixon has now ventured into the fashion world. He is presenting his first capsule collection for Adidas in the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), his Milan headquarters since last year, where he presents his products and those of other carefully selected designers and companies, surrounded by sailing ships, old galleons and submarines. His two travel bags (one hard and one soft) can hold a complete wardrobe, neatly arranged in compartments. Practically speaking, the garments are wrapped and compact, and the bags are designed to contain “everything needed for a week’s holiday in Italy.”

The bag concept is fascinating in itself, but the location and installation are not to be missed. In a pavilion that reproduces a 19^th-century railway station, the British designer has hung open and laid out the bags (and their contents) on moving conveyor belts and piled on platforms, like historic baggage waiting to be taken by porters to the Grand Hotel.
  The launch of this collection marks the beginning of Dixon’s partnership with Adidas; over the next two years, he will produce four collections of clothing, luggage, and footwear. The first products go on sale in November.
