The strange way we discovered the Balenciaga x Lamborghini capsule

With photos ‘for internal use’ taken with an iPhone by Demna Gvasalia himself, Balenciaga’s creative director since 2015, the fashion house has announced its latest collaboration, that with Lamborghini automobiles. The images, which unveil the first garments of the collection on the brand’s Instagram profile, were taken during a fitting, they are backstage photos, they look like ‘visual notes’ intended for the team’s work and certainly not an expensive and carefully curated campaign that fashion is used to. The set has not been studied (or, more likely, does not seem to have been studied), the models pose standing up without contributing to an articulated photographic composition, the clothes are not ironed and in some pictures you can see a finger ‘accidentally’ resting on the camera.

In short, a shoot in the true Balenciaga style, sharing with the Italian luxury car company the same target audience, the same research into innovation and the same celebration of technology highlighted by signifiers. The collection includes a mix of garments, from evening wear to sportswear and uniforms, fused in an eclectic overlap that does not seem destined for a specific type of occasion or genre.

In a limited edition of 630 pieces worldwide, the fashion house has released a white, boxy long-sleeved T-shirt with a print of the Lamborghini Temerario 2025, the company's second hybrid super sports car. This release anticipates the Balenciaga and Automobili Lamborghini collection, a perfect combination of luxury and performance. All items will be on sale from April next year, including leather bomber jackets, racing jackets, T-shirts, tracksuit bottoms, jewellery, travel eyewear and new versions of Balenciaga's iconic Rodeo and Hourglass bags, adorned with the Lamborghini shield emblem. Refined details such as leather luggage tags and clochettes add a distinctive and refined touch, making each piece a tribute to the world of high-end motoring and avant-garde fashion.
