The Triennale in Milan and the MAXXI in Rome join forces to promote and organise a new prize dedicated to Italian architecture. The “National Architecture Prize” – presented yesterday in Milan as part of Arch Week by Stefano Boeri, president of Triennale Milano, Giovanna Melandri, president of Fondazione MAXXI, with Margherita Guccione, director of MAXXI Architettura, and Lorenza Baroncelli, artistic director of Triennale Milano – will be held every year and will join in a single project the Gold Medal of Italian Architecture (organised by the Triennale since 2003), the YAP Award (organised by MAXXI since 2010) and other prizes intended to highlight Italian architecture. The goal is to promote the work of Italian architects. The awards. Three categories: best building (or intervention) made in the last 3 years; best building (or intervention) made by architects “under 40” in the last 3 years; and a lifetime achievement award. Moreover, some special mentions will be made, including, for example, architecture media and historiography systems. Works can be built in Italy or abroad. How it works. The prize and mentions will be assigned by an international jury and based on a selection of projects indicated by an advisory panel made up of architects, critics, architecture historians and curators, who will be appointed by September 2019. Deadlines. The winning designs and finalists will take turn on display – one year at MAXXI and one year at the Triennale. The first edition will be held in Rome in 2020.
