Among the most innovative projects published on Domus Web Carbon Fiber Chair, designed by Michael Young for Coalesse and made entirely of carbon fiber, combining materiality with technology to express its structural form and 21st century craft; Haze Series, by Korean designer Wonmin Park, in light coloured resin; and Kawara, a series of stools and benches made with discarded Japanese roof tiles mounted inside a wooden structure by Eindhoven designer Tsuyoshi Hayashi.
Less revolutionary but iconic is Fauteuil Cognac, Janette Laverrière last furniture design that has its aesthetic roots in the designer’s earliest beginnings.
Other designers decided to address this issue by rediscovering traditional materials and techniques, such as Alessandra Baldereschi, who designed for MOGG the collection of stools Donut, stuffing with straw by hand with the marsh grass, and Patrick Norguet, who worked with natural materials and mineral colours for the collection Knit presented by Ethimo at Milan Design Week.
Chair became art in Tokujin Yoshioka Spider’s Thread: a sculpture made of a growing crystal structure that, using only seven thin threads, set the form of a chair.
Finally, we cannot talk about chairs without mentioning Hans J. Wegner: Designmuseum Danmark marks the 100-year anniversary of its birth with “Just One Good Chair”, a large exhibition that features more than 150 of his major original works.
