The family center and nursery in Pontoise, France, is a reconstruction project by Ateliers O-S Architectes, aiming to guarantee hospitality and openness to the community. Connected to the street, the architecture appears at first sight as a compact block, but it actually plays with different volumes making it a faceted whole. A curved volume stands beside the entrance of the Espace Cordeliers, on the front of the building, while the entrance of the centre familial is escavated in the volume. The main spaces of the complex, the family center and the nursery, are placed in two adjacent and autonomous buildings: the first one includes meeting spaces and a polifunctional room, while the nursery hosts 45 cradles. The spaces are organized around three courtyards with playgrounds and a patio, and the south side is surrounded by a park. The facades are covered by a light, sandy tone giving the structure a general feeling of uniformity with the context.
