After Olympic Games, the Centre Pompidou is preparing for its temporary closure for five years from 2025. In the meantime, the French firm Moreau Kusunoki Architectes and the Mexican firm Frida Escobedo Studio, authors of the major renovation project together with AIA Life Designers, are unveiling the first images of the renovated building. “Moreau Kusunoki's interventions, in collaboration with Frida Escobedo Studio, will be subtly integrated into the visionary architecture of Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, to form a new narrative. This project is an opportunity to reinvent the original utopia of the Centre Pompidou” says Laurent Le Bon, President of the Centre Pompidou. The designers had already announced their desire to preserve the original 1977 project's salvageable elements, with a conservative attitude that respects the authority of the site, replacing and reconstructing the building's facades as they were originally.

One of the main objectives of the renovation is to improve the movement and accessibility of the museum, while also restoring the original value of the square. "By multiplying physical and visual porosity and restoring clarity to the paths of different users, the project encourages the reactivation and redevelopment of spaces. We want to encourage greater freedom of appropriation, to create a cultural centre that reflects the generous values on which it was conceived, where human interaction and physical experience are central," say Hiroko Kusunoki and Nicolas Moreau.
