In 2019, construction began at 125 Greenwich Street in New York for a luxury residential tower designed by Rafael Viñoly. The 88-story project, among the most notable of the Uruguayan-American architect, would join another of his famous super-tall and ultra-thin skyscrapers: 432 Park Avenue. However, the construction site was soon put on hold, and for years, the skyline of Lower Manhattan helplessly welcomed what stood out of this unfinished building.

Recently, it has been announced that construction will finally resume, and on the occasion of this “rebirth”, in honor of its creator who recently passed away in March of this year, the skyscraper has been renamed “The Greenwich by Rafael Viñoly” and is expected to be completed in 2024.
The skyscraper will host 272 luxury residential units, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments, as well as special and ultra-luxurious layouts. The apartments will overlook the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center, and the Hudson River. Additionally, there are planned 27,000 square feet – both indoor and outdoor spaces – dedicated to leisure, health, and wellness services. In particular, the pool, spa, and fitness area will be located at the highest part of the tower, over 800 feet above the city skyline, to offer all residents a breathtaking view of Manhattan.
Román Viñoly, son of Rafael Viñoly and current director of Rafael Viñoly Architects, stated: “My father loved people. He was endlessly curious about how they live their lives and how the spaces he designed for them could contribute to their sense of well-being”.
