Intended to be a “Hippocratic oath” for sustainable architecture and urbanism, the San Marino Declaration was signed on 3 October 2022 in San Marino by Norman Foster, Stefano Boeri and representatives of the San Marino, Rimini and Pesaro Architects' Associations, and adopted by the member states of the United Nations European Economic Commission (UNECE).
Among the eleven points it contains, Principle F states the priority of climate neutrality, whereby “Cities, urban infrastructure and buildings should be designed and requalified to minimize the associated climate footprint, by adopting creative solutions that reduce pollution and energy use”.
A conference at the Triennale, to translate the San Marino Declaration into projects
Signatories of the Declaration and actors of urban transformation meet in Milan on 15 December to discuss “Climate Neutrality and cities”.

On Thursday December 15 at 6 p.m., the conference Neutralità climatica e città. Dai principi della Dichiarazione di San Marino all’impegno progettuale per città sostenibili e inclusive (Climate Neutrality and Cities. From the Principles of the San Marino Declaration to the Design Commitment for Sustainable and Inclusive Cities) will be held at Triennale Milano to bring together Italian mayors, property and development managers, academic staff, architects and engineers to define the first steps in the implementation of the Declaration, in particular its principles of sustainable development in urbanisation.
