The construction of an all-timber soccer stadium has been approved. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for the Forest Green Rovers Football Club in Gloucestershire, England, the structure will be the world’s first stadium made out of wood – structure, roof cantilevers and louvered cladding included– and the first carbon neutral or carbon negative stadium. Seating terraces and floor slab are made from timber too, while a transparent membrane covers the roof. Eco Park Stadium is part of a public realm for citizens and provides 5,000 seats to be increased to 10,000 with the success of the club, multi-disciplinary facilities, a sports science hub and retail spaces. The structure generates on-site renewable energy, cofirming its sustainable approach.
