“Practicing” is a teaching experiment on space construction by CAFAarchStudio10 in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. The subject required each student to create a small structure with an envelope enclosure, to achieve scale, materiality and usage through a strong body perception.
Practicing pavilions
Beijing’s Academy of Fine Arts organized a workshop where CAFAarchStudio10, students and a wood company combined forces in creating temporary pavilions.

Based on the use of wood, the final seven structures feature personalized shapes. Woven Mountain weaves rope and wood with an industrialized standard section, forming a corrugated organic form. Cloud Forest is an abstract translation of a rural seclusion, intended to make people slow down in the fast-paced city life. Folding House is a nine sqm box which can be split into ten single units and reassembled to be a flexible micro-center for community activity. The Cumulative Bookstore is a structure built from the repetition of several simple wood components, providing the community with reading and communication place. Sit Together is also formed by the splicing of units, while Obstacle focuses on the relationship between the body and the space. Stream House is focused on the dual role of landscape and architecture.
