A garage into a house

In Lisbon, Fala Atelier converted a garage into a house, leaving the structure in its original state and giving the space an industrial, yet cozy touch.

Fala Atelier converted a windowless 200 square meters garage into a house in Lisbon. The project started with an unconventional request from with a very tight budget.

The intervention proposed the clearest reading possible of the existing structure, emphasizing its strength. While the garage was careless and grey, the house is clean and white, with ceiling light. Two generous bathrooms were included behind a curved wall, where once there was a broken corner, while the walls and ceilings were painted in white and the floor covered in a continuous polished concrete surface. The existing skylights we’re redesigned with a minimalistic approach.

Carefully placed elements organize the living areas: a marble kitchen, curtains and potted plants. Along with furniture, the free standing elements carry the flexible identity of the house, highlighting its volume with color.
