Plex Modular

Sam Hecht and Kim Colin presented Plex Modular Lounge Seating for Herman Miller. Designed to support Home, Office, Education and Healthcare settings, Plex allows the ease of flexible arrangement with a compact seat that’s designed for individual comfort.

Plex consists of a series of units that each provide comfort and usefulness and can be combined with other units to make additional settings – a simple hook allows the flexibility to re-arrange the modules. It is engineered using Herman Miller’s extensive knowledge of ergonomics, anthropometrics and comfort, and uses super-seat technology in its webbing – a stretched rubber membrane that adjusts to whatever posture you may take.

The Plex offering is made up of just six elements that can be combined to create everything from armchairs and sofas to ottomans and benches. Movable tables, in fixed or adjustable-height, nest closely to Plex seats to make working at a laptop convenient or resting drinks. Power ports at the base of the Plex units provide easy access for charging. Each element can be used alone or combined in a myriad of ways to create settings ranging from a haven for quiet contemplation; a small social grouping; or a team space.

It is equally effective in educational surroundings like student unions, libraries, and workshops. Plex provides individual comfort while giving interior planners a versatile, modular solution. Each Plex seating unit includes suspension seat technology and lumbar support to make sitting for longer stretches more comfortable. Its sculpted back encourages active sitting by allowing people to vary their postures. In its club chair form, Plex offers a height-adjustable headrest – similar to a car seat.

The versatility of Plex includes a choice of legs, casters, and swivel bases, and extends to its material choices as well. Textiles can be mixed between seat and back to create a two-tone effect, or matched to create a monochromatic look. Nearly unlimited upholstery options allow for an appearance to meet any style, durability, or cost requirement.
