During the recent 2013 Stockholm Furniture Fair, design duo Raw Edges conceived a striking fair stand for Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat, composed of a large-scale wooden structure, from which 1,500 strips of fabric hang, creating an intimate atmosphere inspired by willow trees.

Titled The Picnic, the installation envisioned to recreate "a picnic in an enchanted forest atmosphere", state designers Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, who describe their concept as "wooden cabin, soft roof tiles, fish skin and picnic under a weeping willow, all mixed in a massive pot with Kvadrat swatches."

The stand seeks to allow a closer look at a variety of Kvadrat textile samples. The underlying wooden structure is made of Douglas fir, evoking the appearance of a wooden cabin, while functioning as a display surface, allowing the textiles to fully emerge.

Similarly, the vast textile installation attains an impressive scale, while evoking both its direct inspiration — willow trees — and roof shingles. The three-dimensional volume that is created allows visitors to enter an intimate space within the large exhibition hall typical of trade fairs. A few chairs allow for visitors to sit and linger, while inspecting the wide range of textiles.
