Dance: Chandeliers, Lights and Lamps by Drifandi will be on display from 6 to 8 July at the the Westmann Islands's Gallery. Drifandi is a cooperation between ceramic designer Gudny Hafsteinsdottir and vegetable fibre designer Margret Gudnadottir. The exhibition will be held in parallel with a festival commemorating the end of the Eldfell volcano eruption in 1973. The Westmann Islands influences the pieces on display, as the special energy, heat and colour from the place is apparent in the lamps and chandeliers.

The cooperation first came about in connection to Flétta ["Braid"], an exhibition that opened in last March during Iceland's Design March. Flétta aimed to bring about cooperations between different designers, allowing Hafsteinsdottir and Gudnadottir to join forces, weaving together porcelain and vegetable fibres so both materials would flow together in form and colour. The result is a dance of two partners, hard porcelain and soft fibre.

The Eldfell volcano serves as inspiration for the the pieces, as vibrant, illuminated fibres dance from the top of the earthenware ceramics. Like a volcano in concert, these pieces seek to capture the raw energy of nature and the beauty of light mediated through material. The fibres are arranged in a way that seeks to emulate the volcano's sublime and unpredictable movements, freezing them in time.
