Euroremont is a Russian neologism meaning a repair of an interior according to European standards. It is performed in many apartments in the houses from 19th-early 20th century in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other old cities of Russia. In the Soviet past, most of these apartments were communal flats, and the original interior has been in general poorly preserved. The final image after a Euroremont is often esthetically and functionally excellent.
The drawback of some today’s Euroremonts is the fact that neighbours’ apartments can be damaged, and mechanisms of compensation function with great difficulties in such cases.
Some apartments, probably, should be preserved in their original state, as a memory of the Soviet-time communal flats; the more so, as the interior from the 19th or early 20th centuries, stucco moldings, parquet floors etc., has been preserved in some of them.
