In the district of Malasaña in Madrid, the architecture studio founded by Gonzalo Pardo and Ana Torres renovates an apartment of over 120 square meters to be destined to a single person. The plan of the house reflects the typical organization of many old apartments in the Spanish capital, characterized by load-bearing walls parallel to the facade and outlining a succession of rooms that can be accessed through a corridor.
A bachelor house in Madrid
When privacy is not a necessity, an apartment in the district of Malasaña privileges fluidity, with communicating spaces to be opened or closed according to the desires of the moment.

The architects redesign the layout and usability of the space enhancing openness and flow. Characterized by a length of 21 meters, the plan is transformed into a succession of communicating rooms compatible with the constraints of the existing walls. The possibility of opening – and, when necessary, closing - the space is entrusted to sliding walls positioned at the main junction points. The clear lines of finishes and coverings, dominated by wood but capable of integrating heterogeneous materials such as brick and ceramic, enhance the neatness and the breadth of the project.
Dosed in the living area as well as in the night area, the vibrant use of color is not relegated to a mere decorative attribute, but aims to constitute a succession of sets that can accommodate the many founding actions - cooking, sleeping, relaxing, working, etc.. - that make up the daily life of each home. "Facilitating, against the exlusive domestic functionalism", say the architects, "the dream of living".
