Stereoscope is a 60 sqm L-shaped café located on the ground floor of an office building in Newport Beach, California.

The high, narrow space suggested the creation of a unique setting, capable of pushing the boundaries of the space it occupies, as designers David Wick of Wick Architecture and Design and Andrew Lindley of LAND Design Studio explain. Inspired by Italian masterpieces such as Correggio’s Assumption of the Virgin in Parma or Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel in Rome, the designers invited artist Christy Lee Rodgers, known for her underwater photography in Renaissance and Baroque style, to intervene in the interior of the cafeteria. A piece of work, The Reunion of Cathryn Carrie and Jean, is transferred onto a 3D vinyl wallpaper and applied to the ceilings of the bar. The design is graduated downwards and blends seamlessly with the white of the walls, thanks to a careful study of the lighting.

The baroque scenery of the ceiling is a counterpoint to the minimalist aesthetic below, made of continuous white oak wood seats, opaque white tiles and Orca blue marble for the counter. On the wooden shelf that runs the length of the bar, 20 pairs of 3D glasses allow you to capture all the expressive spectacularity of the scenery above.
