The Mexican Architectural Firm Esrawe Studio is called to design the fifth restaurant of the Japanese chain Tori Tori in Mexico City, in the Santa Fe district. Also this restaurant, like other is destined to close during the general lockdown just announced in Mexico.
The 720 square meter space is wrapped in a dark casing and furnished with oak wood complements. Quotations from Japanese culture and architecture characterize the interior of the restaurant.
Two large suspended totems descend from the high ceilings. Imposing and luminous, they evoke the interweaving of samurai armours. The wall running along the sushi bar counter is marked by bas-reliefs based on the abstraction and stylization of Japanese logograms.
The spatial compression and decompression given by the different heights of the ceiling and the positioning of the totems identify different areas inside the restaurant: a take-away area, a teppanyaki table, a central area of small tables and a glazed perimeter band with plants for larger tables.
