“Connection, connection, connection. The details are not details”. This phrase of Charles Eames opens (and closes) a video dedicated to Maddalena De Padova. Twenty eight minutes in which the entrepreneur talks about herself and, following the thread which runs through her work, remembers the “discovery” of the design culture of Scandinavia in the fifties, meeting Eames in the sixties, the friendship with designers – then barely known – today famous names: Magistretti, Caccia Dominioni, Gardella, Albini and Castiglioni; the love in the eighties for the clean and simple lines of Shaker furniture, leading to the creation of her own production “è DePadova”. Forming the backdrop is the city of Milan with its fast and continual transformations, from the economic boom to today.
“What interests me is the tell a story through the experience, the life and the work of people" explains author Didi Gnocchi, journalist and director of various documentaries and portraits of artists, designers and architects. “Every story has its own means”, she adds “and in this case video was without a doubt the right choice. Maddalena is like a torrent, she has hardly finished one phrase when she already starts another. Such a sunny character could not be described with a film”.
The project, which came about almost by chance at the suggestion of Vico Magistretti, will be presented during the week of the Furniture Fair in Milan at the DePadova showroom in corso Venezia.
