The past bestows on us events and images in which everything overlaps, mingles and blends, often giving us the impression that it was always that turbulent and chaotic. Only rarely does history deliver pure clear images capable of channelling definitive answers, which would be in any case be partial considering the magnitude of the subject.

Therefore archaeological finds and historical architecture are always collages of the past ages, even in the case of the most authentic and intact buildings: it is history itself that creates chaos, different interpretations, different readings of the same event.
This building by Assemble, a conversion of the former Laurie Grove Baths, delivers a system of functional spaces, architectural solutions, formal experimentations, and work spaces of such quality that even its most negligible features take on a refined, contemporary and vital aesthetics.
Assemble is a multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm who practice a hands-on, collaborative approach, actively encouraging residents and users to collaborate and take part in their work.
The social focus and impact of their work was recognised by the award of the 2015 Turner Prize. Assemble’s premises are in Sugarhouse Studios, Bermondesey, London.
