Frequented mainly by kitesurf lovers and local fishermen, the Malemba beach features virgin sand dunes overlooking the Guaraíras lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. Immersed in this dreamy landscape, the latest project by the Brazilian studio Vilela Florez is a two-level residence set in a sloping plot of 642 sqm. The house is made up of two independent volumes, facing the lagoon and integrated by a large pergola.

In Tibau du Sol, Vilela Florez designs two houses that overlook the Atlantic Ocean, reinterpreting traditional customs and construction techniques.

The large glass facades are protected by a system of wooden frames that can be opened in various ways to regulate the entry of light and favour ventilation. Various materials are integrated into the concrete structure: rocks on the walls and laying on the pergola, slices of trunk immersed in the floors, bamboo on the ceiling and fences. The roof is considered as the fifth facade: it is made up of a double layer for water collection and passive cooling of the interior rooms. Materiality and constructive solutions are inspired by the traditions and colours of the place. The different shades are an expression of joy and respect for the culture of the city of Tibau du Sol, as well as a tribute to the ocean and the lagoon.
