The venues to be at during Design Indaba 2019

Those slow to buy fast-selling tickets, or wanting to catch the renowned Design Indaba conference talks outside of Cape Town, can attend the simulcasts being screened in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Potchefstroom, and in Cape Town, too.

LISOF in Johannesburg will host trend forecaster Li Edelkoort’s much-anticipated Trend Seminar for 2020 (25 Feb), and will also show a curated version of the work of 10 of the 50 Emerging Creatives being shown at the main Cape Town festival.

The Cape Town event all happens at the Artscape Theatre Centre, with the theatre presenting free evening screenings of documentary film The Human Shelter, Matwetwe by South African director Kagiso Lediga, and Rafiki by conference speaker Wanuri Kahiu, who will conduct a Q&A afterwards.

The 45-minute night-school masterclasses open to the public will include talks by leading architects Stefan Antoni and Greg Truen, who will demonstrate their latest VR technology; photographer Victor Dlamini, who will take his audience behind the lens of portraiture; and food scientist Leah Bessa, leading an interactive session on the future of sustainable food design.

This is where the magic happens after-hours during Nightscape - three evenings of free access to musical performances, installations, retail offerings and demonstrations. Look out for the exhibition of finalists in the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa, as well as the Emerging Creatives class of 2019.
