“For years I have dreamt of seeing grey, grey-black and grey-grey clothes vanish from our lives […] and I am delighted whenever I see a girl wearing a colourful outfit. […] Colour is festivity and life, while grey to me seems above all like a useless, cold conviction.” A cascade of enthusiastic letters flooded the newsroom of Domus in 1952, following an article, entitled “Everything in the World Must Be Colourful”, written by Gio Ponti for the Pirelli magazine. According to Domus’ then editor-in-chief, colour is an essential tool in design and capable of improving our daily lives.

The Color Design project, developed by Chrèon in collaboration with the designer Francesca Valan, deals with this: to provide private individuals and professionals with techniques, trends and guidelines that facilitate the chromatic design of spaces. As part of Color Design, the company has developed Color Trainer, a direct consulting service and an online program that simplifies the choice of shades for different environments: home, bedrooms, playgrounds, schools and outdoors.
The programme focuses in particular on domestic and school spaces for children. Depending on their age, they have different visual skills and needs: at first infants only perceive strong contrasts and intense colours, then they are able to appreciate various shades and more neutral colours. With color it is possible to define various spaces in the bedroom and create environmental situations more suited to play or rest. In schools, colour design can help to mark the different moments of the day, operating in different ways in entrances, corridors, classrooms and canteens.
Chrèon is the Lechler brand that deals with products and processes for painting and that with the Comfort Line line summarizes what was developed with Color Design: restful, stimulating, educational, elegant, alternative colors for all environments and situations.
