The introduction of 5G will lead to the diffusion of many of the innovations that we’ve been expecting for in the last few years. Autonomous driving, connected cities and even smart home will become a worldwide reality and not some kind of science fiction scenario; today in China you can already experience a slice of this future; in the chinese southern tech district, Shenzhen Telecom and Huawei have been testing a 5G connected bus, a self-driven vehicle with a real time cctv system and high definition streaming tv services for the passengers. In 2025, there will be 40 billions sensing devices, 100 billions of connections and 100 billions terabyte of data, says Huawei, that today launched Balong 5000, the world’s “most powerful 5G modem”, as Richard Yu, the Chinese company’s CEO, defines it, with data upload and download peak speeds expected to be 10 times faster than 4G. “We want intelligence to be everywhere”, Mr. Yu declared during the launch event, prior to unveiling Huawei 5G new CPE, the Pro, a cylindrical white box that will introduce in consumers’ houses “a new smart home experience” powered by the new hyper-fast connection standard that Balong 5000 provides.
Last year, Huawei launched its digital assistant and speaker, only for the Chinese-speaking markets, that’s involving more that 200 partners. While Huawei was at the center of more than one international case in the last few months, Mr. Yu declared that the company “will launch the 5G globally”, partnering with carriers and companies all over the world. He also announced that a foldable phone and 5D smartphones will be shown in Barcelona, during this year’s MWC. The CEO also stated that 5G is not only for connecting people, but also for connecting machines, and will get huge performance improvement with Huawei’s IA solutions.
