Among the infinite signs with which Gio Ponti, the visionary architect and founder of Domus, left his mark on architecture and design, the hand is a recurring one. A tribute to the practice of artists and craftsmen, the hand is also the tool we use to communicate, to measure, to touch. A fundamental organ for designers, who learn to "think with their hands".
In the 1920s, Ponti invented the ceramic hand, symbolic and useless, which is still produced today by Richard Ginori, who until then had always given shape to the material by reducing it to traditional forms. There are at least 26 more of Ponti's hands, all of which have been chosen to cover the Dezza armchair, a timeless icon designed by Ponti for Poltrona Frau in 1965 and still in production today.

The chair - in which one can see both the rigid lines of modernism and a soft, inviting profile defined by the curve that starts from the armrests and ends in the feet - ends with drawings of hands that the architect imagined in all their functions and positions: there is the gloved hand, the horned hand, the bourgeois hand, the clasped hand and the pierced hand.
A tribute to the practice of artists and craftsmen, the hand is also the tool we use to communicate, to measure, to touch.

To celebrate the first 60 years of the product, the company is relaunching it in a numbered series of 60 pieces, recognisable not only by the plaque on each one, but also by the pattern of the hands, whose colours, cream and iris, are inspired by those chosen by Gio Ponti for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento, one of his masterpieces.
The chair will first be available online and then in selected Poltrona Frau showrooms.

Sahil: G.T.DESIGN's Eco-conscious Design
At Milan Design Week 2025, G.T.DESIGN will showcase Sahil, a jute rug collection by Deanna Comellini. This project masterfully blends sustainability, artisanal craftsmanship, and essential design, drawing inspiration from nomadic cultures and celebrating the inherent beauty of natural materials.
