Located in Villa Bertelli, a late 19th century building in the heart of Forte dei Marmi, the Quarto Platano Museum is the result of a partnership between the Tuscan municipality and the Fondazione Corrente of Milan.
The exhibition project, designed by Jacopo Muzio - Studio Jam Architecture - is divided into five rooms: the first, a tribute to the history and culture of the area, is followed by two rooms dedicated to internationally renowned artists who made Italian history in the 20th century, from Giorgio de Chirico to Renato Guttuso, from Ernesto Treccani to Umberto Vittorini. The fourth room is dedicated to the works of Italian writers and poets such as Eugenio Montale and Magda De Grada, and the last room contains the works of Arturo Dazzi, a sculptor and painter from Carrara.
“In the long years of the last century, Forte dei Marmi was a great crossroads for artists and intellectuals, who left here an indelible mark of their creativity,” explains Ermindo Tucci, President of the Villa Bertelli Foundation. “A heritage that is now accessible to everyone, thanks also to the availability of the Corrente Foundation. With the museum, we have offered artists and their works a permanent home from which to send a new, wonderful message to the world”.
One of the most interesting aspects of the exhibition is the insight into the lives of the artists and their relationship with the area, an added value for a modern art museum. The exhibition also aims to interact with the rest of the villa, with events and temporary exhibitions that we will hear about in the future.
