More than 4,500 drawings by Carlo Scarpa at the Castelvecchio Museum

Carlo Scarpa is also celebrated for the enormous artistic and design care he devoted to preparatory drawings. Now it will be possible to have direct access to them on the archive's new website.

On the occasion of Archivissima, the national festival dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of archival heritage, the new website of the Carlo Scarpa Archive at the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona has been launched. After more than twenty years, it has been completely revamped in terms of both graphics and accessibility to the drawings and documents related to the activities of one of the greatest masters of 20th-century architecture.

Carlo Scarpa is renowned not only for his architecture but also for the immense artistic and design care he dedicated to preparatory drawings, which convey all his creative flair and meticulous attention to detail. Scarpa used drawing as a fundamental tool, exploring its limits and expanding its possibilities. “I want to see things; I only trust this. I want to see, and for this, I draw. I can only see an image if I draw it,” he said.

The online archive – archiviocarloscarpa.it – now offers more than 4,500 high-resolution drawings and projects related to the Castelvecchio Museum, available for architects, researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts alike. Additionally, it organizes visits by appointment also to showcase Scarpa’s work and support interdisciplinary research projects.
