The new Xi’an Museum of Technology, located in the capital city of Shaanxi province, will be realized by the satellite office of Stefano Boeri Architetti in China. The Culture CBD Modern Technology Experience Center will be a major scientific and cultural hub for the city, serving as a place for study, research, and innovation, to revitalize the surrounding urban area. Stefano Boeri Architetti’s project aims to be a permeable system, capable of activating new urban connections and engaging a wide audience. From a formal perspective, it draws inspiration from both the ancient origins of Xi’an and the local landscape, characterized by a winding system of rivers and mountains.
The north facade, facing a large urban park, recalls natural elements with its curves and is clad in vertical metal slats. The south facade, facing the city, is covered with horizontal slats of high-performance reinforced concrete (GRC) with glass fiber to ensure high durability and better mechanical properties. On the roof, the project will feature a rooftop garden in continuity with the park and a terrace system that will host the museum’s cultural event program, providing citizens with a new outdoor public space to enjoy in the city.
As the main color element of the project, a particular shade of highly saturated and luminous blue has been chosen, typically found in digital art, which characterizes the public areas, exhibition spaces, as well as signage elements, and land artworks spread throughout the park.
