Construction has begun on the Ingeborg Pohl Kinderoase at the Technische Universität München (TUM), the new childcare center designed by Kéré Architecture and entirely built in wood, in collaboration with the Austrian firm Hermann Kaufmann + Partner, experts in constructions with this material. The center is named after the project’s financier.
Located in the heart of TUM’s dense university campus, the kindergarten will allow staff and students’ children to be cared for in a high-quality environment. By the end of 2025, there will be space for 60 children, who will have 700 square meters at their disposal. Inside the five-story building, children will find a series of spaces of various sizes designed to stimulate creativity: different floors will be connected by slides, and the entire aesthetic of the building will reflect the cheerful energy of children. Administrative spaces will be on the ground floor, while the various areas for children will be grouped by age on the three intermediate floors. The top floor will host a covered terrace where children can play and enjoy the sheltered outdoor space, with a panoramic view of the city.
