The new 2025 RAM 1500 Ramcharger is quite a peculiar car. It is, by all means, an electric car with dual electric motors (250Kv in the front, 238Kv in the rear) for propulsion. Yet, it also packs a regular gas engine that can kick in when the batteries are depleted. Unlike a traditional hybrid vehicle, the gas engine won’t power the drivetrain directly but rather generate electricity to replenish the battery, thus working as a gas generator.
While this might all sound like a bad meme devised by EV haters who like to repost videos of Teslas recharged with diesel generators, the idea is quite solid. Thanks to this setup, made possible by the large amount of space inside the massive truck, the RAM 1500 can run for about 690 miles on a full tank.
Despite the size and weight, the car still gets the advantages of an EV, such as thrust (0-60mph in 4.4s), and can still run for at least 145 miles on electricity. For people who might use it as a daily driver for work and family duties and can recharge it at night, the RAM 1500 might work mostly as an EV, with the bonus of not having to devise a recharging plan before every longer trip. The car is due to arrive on the market by the end of 2024 or early 2025 at the latest.
