Italian furniture brand Bonacina and retromod shop Garage Italia have partnered to release a new version of the Fiat 500 Spiaggina. The car is a tribute to the late 50s and 60s when custom builds of the diminutive utility car could be seen driving by in the streets of Portofino or Forte dei Marmi. “It was nice to travel back in time with our craftspeople; we found ourselves with the same bare seat of the classic version and had to figure out how to weave our material within its metal skeleton,” says Elia Bonacina, CEO of Bonacina. “This has been developed with our philosophy in mind: creating a product that lasts over time and offering an ergonomic and comfortable solution, as for all the products we design and manufacture.”

The new retromod comes with an unapologetically pink finish and features seats made of rattan, the signature material of Bonacina’s furniture. The seats have been aniline-dyed based on an idea of Elia Bonacina, meaning that customers can have them easily painted in a custom finish. In the original version of the 500 Spiaggina designed by Vittorio Bonacina in the late 50s, the seats were only available in the material’s original color. The car is fully electric, with a range of 100km and a top speed of 80 km/h. Prices start at €60.000. As for all other projects by the brand, Garage Italia plans to place the new Spiaggina mostly as a collection item or as a courtesy car in the lodging and luxury events markets.
