Luzinterruptus filled an entire building with 8,000 plastic bags

The installation placed in a wealthy Mumbai neighborhood forces us to come to terms with our unsustainable use of plastic.

The Spanish collective Luzinterruptus in January was invited to the Mumbai Urban Art Festival to stage his work “The Plastic We Live With”. The idea was to graphically show the excess of plastic that surrounds us, an already pressing problem in our lives, since almost everything we consume is wrapped in plastic, so much so that now the microplastics also invade water and air. Recycling is clearly not enough to solve this problem, we must reduce consumption.

Finally, also the Indian government has recently banned the use of non-recyclable or plastic bags, so Luzinterruptus has collected more than 8 thousand items through a public announce, and then installed them in the facade of the Evelyn Guesthouse, completely stuffing every opening and creating the effect that the plastic was overflowing from the building.

The contrast between the installation, with a clear reference to plastic garbage and its toxicity, and the luxurious facades of the other buildings of the Colaba district, has made the message of the work even stronger, attracting the attention of anyone passing by.
