Designed by the Californian architect John Lautner over the Hollywood Hills, and built in 1962 for American composer Russell Garcia, the Garcia House – also known as the “Rainbow House” – is a modernist masterpiece. And although its two-story structure underwent several changes in 2002, the house still retains Lautner’s hallmarks. The house, in its 2,600 square feet, contains three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It has a lava rock entryway and a large wall of stained glass. Resting on a slender structure of V-shaped poles, it appears in all its lightness and compositional elegance. A descent designed by landscape architect John Sharp, then leads to an eye-shaped pool added in 2008, which recalls the parabolic shape of the roof.
