Bay Views, Google’s new campus – designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and Heatherwick Studio in Mountain View, California – follows strict sustainability criteria. Each building that composes it is in fact covered by sprawling canopies covered in 50,000 small, silver-colored “dragonscale” photovoltaic panels. This particular shape in fact optimize the moments they can generate solar power throughout the day.

The Bay View offices are covered by a roof of solar panels that can capture sunlight from different angles, maximizing the hours when they generate electricity.

Furthermore, the 1 million square-feet project, located in an area currently undergoing a severe drought, it’s designed to save water. The largest geothermal system in North America makes possible to heat and cool the buildings without fossil fuels. The buildings’ solar skins, along with local wind power, will help the campus work toward company’s goal of running on 100% renewable power, 24-7, by the end of the decade – right now, it runs around 90%.
