The BMW designed by Jeff Koons and produced in 99 units

The artist designed a unique exterior for a limited series of the BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe. Each one requires 200 hours of hand-labor in order to be realized.

BMW has a long history of partnering with famous artists to re-imagine the design of some of its flagship cars. The last addition to the series is the 8 X Jeff Koons, an M850i xDrive Gran Coupé with a new exterior that incorporates elements from Pop Art and geometric patterns. At the car's rear, the exploding lines of color are reminiscent of the BMW M3 GT2 that Koons redesigned in 2010. Koons' design was both a difficult and expensive feat of craftsmanship, with the exterior paint job requiring over 200hrs of manual labor for each model. Unlike all the other BMW Art Cars, the special edition M850i won't be just a divertissement nor a one-of-a-kind car. The company will produce 99 units of the 8 X Jeff Koons. One of them, signed by the artist, will be auctioned after the public launch in Manhattan's Rockefeller Plaza on April 4th, with proceeds from the auction going to the International Center for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC).
