At its NextGen event in Munich, last week, BMW Motorrad unveiled the concept of the Vision DC Roadster, an electric motorbike with a radically new design that still draws inspiration from BMW’s most iconic motorcycle designs. The bike looks extremely futuristic, with a retracted handlebar and slim seat and tail that contribute to a general feel of speed and power.
The most interesting element are the protruding flaps on the side of the motorbike: they mimic the horizontally opposed cylinder of BMW’s boxer engine, but in this case they’re just use as air conveyors that help cooling the batteries. The bike is built using ultralight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber and sports a LED lighting system replicating the light setup of fuel-powered BMW bikes.
The Vision DC Roadster is indeed just a vision for now. Whoever would like to ride an electric BMW two-wheeler, though, already has the option to do so with the C Evolution scooter launched by the German manufacturer in 2014 and available on the European market already since a couple of years.
