Eight sculptures by Fernando Botero in Rome for the first time

L’itinerario diffuso animerà le principali piazze della città, anticipando la mostra a Palazzo Bonaparte dedicata all’artista colombiano.

The outdoor exhibition Botero in Rome, the first major show after the artist's death in 2023, is curated by his daughter Lina Botero with the realisation of the Fernando Botero Foundation and in cooperation with Il Cigno Edizioni, Bam eventi d'arte and Il Cigno Arte. The initiative was developed to shape an exhibition itinerary that crosses the capital's most beautiful squares, where eight monumental bronze sculptures produced between the 1990s and the early 2000s have been placed.

On Terrazza del Pincio, in the squares San Lorenzo in Lucina, Mignanelli, San Silvestro, in Largo dei Lombardi and Piazza del Popolo, visitors can admire these oversized figures of women, men and animals which represent the maximum expression of Fernando Botero's stylistic signature. The eight sculptures, exhibited all over the world, interwave with the city of Rome a dialogue between ancient and contemporary, following the emotional connection that bound the artist to Italy, considered his second homeland and whose Renaissance painting indelibly shaped his artistic research.

Moreover, starting September 17, the Botero exhibition at Palazzo Bonaparte, curated by Arthemisia, will be open to visitors. This comprehensive retrospective, the most extensive ever held in Rome, will showcase a collection of previously unseen paintings, sculptures, drawings, and watercolours by the Colombian artist.
