The two finalist projects for the Meazza Stadium have been unveiled. The historic infrastructure of Milan, inaugurated in 1926 to host the football matches of Inter and AC Milan, will be replaced by a new building, part of a project that sees a requalification of the entire San Siro district. The finalist architectural firms are Populous and Manica-Cmr Sportium, with their proposals “The Cathedral” and “The rings of Milan”.
The first, inspired by the city cathedral and the surrounding area, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, aims to combine past and future: a white cathedral with 65 thousand seats surrounded by green spaces for everyone, which will be coloured blue and red during the matches. The rings in the Manica-Cmr project represent the meeting and the contrast between the two Milanese teams and provide 10 hectares of park around, while on the facades there will be panels with the faces of fans.
