Obstacles and Solutions

Source, a brand from Florence that deals with self-produced design, confirms also this year its presence at the Milan Design Week with the exhibition “Obstacles and Solutions” that will be presented at Isola Design District with a new format that helps designers in the development of their projects and the companies in the discovery of new professionals.

  The exhibition, curated by Valia Barriello, was born from the will to highlight one of the aspects of production which is rarely talked about, the obstacle. The problems which occur during the realization of an object often lead the designer to an unexpected or optimal solution. The visitor will find out some hidden aspects of self-production and even some funny anecdotes, and the exhibition will become a story telling about obstacles, solutions and a peculiarity of every good designer: stubbornness. Through broken prototypes, shapes, chalk moulds, distances, calculations and artisans’ addresses, the exhibition wants to tell all the difficulties, sometimes objective, sometimes subjective, which the designer had to face.

A wide selection of emerging designers will be paired with successful ones, showing that difficulties are not a peculiarities of the early years, but they must be faced throughout a designer’s career. They will be on display objects and obstacles by Paolo Ulian, Lorenzo Damiani, Carlo Contin, Francesco Faccin, Federico Angi, Donata Paruccini e Massimo Barbierato. There will also be designers from the project Quattromani, to name a few: Davide Aquini, Francesco Fusillo, ZP Studio, Marco Barazzuoli, Michela Voglino, Elisabetta Coccioni and Filippo Protasoni — organized by Florence Factory, Source Firenze, CNA Toscana and Slow/d in collaboration with OMA and Artex to bring together the crafts with the world of design and marketing.
