Mjölk studio designed the interiors for a typical American burger restaurant owned by a client from Chicago, now is based in Liberec, in the Czech Republic. Located within 19th century Art Deco building, it was originally used as a showroom for pianos from a piano factory near the city. The challenge was to give a new look, preserving the quality and charm of the original space.

The ground floor of an Art Deco building in Czech Republic was renovated by studio Mjölk to host a burger restaurant inspired by underground Chicago.

The architects preserved all the plaster decorations and windows details, and unified them with a uniform colour. To accentuate its original design they used, in contrast, raw materials: the bar itself, for example, is made of old corrugated iron sheet. The wall behind the bar is garnished with black basalt bricks and decorated with colored metal blinds. Floors are made of bare concrete, giving a Chicago industrial feeling. The high ceiling of the restaurant made the acoustics a bit problematic, so three huge lamps made of fiberglass were added. The same material was used for the entrance tunnel. This material was chosen for its unique quality of light distribution.
