Paul Ulian and Moreno Ratti’s research on the possibilities of marble tile 40x40 cm is enriched with this collection of lightweight vases, with a natural texture.
What things can be made by cutting a marble tile 40x40 cm with water jet machine, assembling simply the pieces without creating waste material?
Little Gerla is the last object born from Paolo Ulian and Moreno Ratti’s research on this theme, following the collection 40X40 and the PiùOMeno lamp.
Little Gerla is a collection of four vases with different sizes and shapes obtained from a single marble tile of cm 40x40x3, without producing waste material. With waterjet cutting the tile is divided into four equal pieces of cm 20x20x3 and from each of these concentric thin rings are formed, with a thickness of 4 mm, superimposed and rotated among themselves to make the shapes of the four vases. Vases are lightweight, as if they were made of porcelain, and characterized by the natural texture left by the waterjet cut.
