Presented at the office furniture trade fair in Cologne, the A-Collection collection includes 15 typologies in oak and beech wood, which were formally inspired by a wooden trestle chair originally designed by architect Berndt Pedersen. To the trestle typology, the Bouroullec brothers sought to add comfort and durability.
The brief asked for "a strong, sensual, stackable wooden chair", and the designers decided to cut the shell in two parts united by a pronounced seam, where, under the seat, four legs are directly attached, creating an A-frame structure.
This design decision allows for neat stacking to a level where most other chairs pile forward. The chairs follow the movement of the user, such as the cantilever chairs developed in the 1930s in the Bauhaus. The other pieces in the collection follow the same aesthetic: table tops are also positioned in the middle of the framework, allowing for a cable run.
