Jürgen Mayer H Architects have designed a new residential building in Berlin's Mitte district, which reinterprets the city's classic typology of a multi-unit structure and an interior courtyard, filled with lush vegetation.
The treatment of the façade evokes previous works by Mayer H, with a familiar sculptural design which permeates most spaces of the building. Mayer H explains that "the sculptural design of the suspended slat facade draws on the notion of landscape in the city, a quality visible in the graduated courtyard garden and the building's silhouette and layout."
Despite the building's residential typology, the ground floor includes a number of commercial spaces. The apartments face southwest, with views of the courtyard garden. The architects sought to create a number of spacious transitions, facilitating an "open residential experience in the middle of the city."
The building offers a number of housing options, from townhouses with private gardens, to classic apartments or penthouses. Mayer H's "integrated design concept" incorporates everything from façade to stairwells, elevators to apartment interiors, promising "a unique spatial and living experience".
