French designer Olivier Vadrot has designed Orchestre, a family of volcanic stone and marble seats halfway between design and sculpture. The elements with different shapes represent the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet and offer as many positions and possibilities of interaction. The “O” is a place for horizontal discussion, the “E” allows three people to sit next to each other, the “U” allows intimate discussions. The project by Vadrot is located in the common spaces of the University of Literature and Human Sciences in Aix-en-Provence, France. Arranged to form a large ellipse, the seats represent an imaginary amphitheatre, which is translated into French as “Orchestre”.
