“Cultural nomad” is how Pakhalé describes himself and is a term that certainly fits him well as a quick look at his biography goes to confirm. Born in India (in 1967), he studied in Bombay, Paris and Switzerland before setting up his studio in Amsterdam in 1998 following a period working for Philips in Holland on the interior of a hyper-technological Renault prototype.
His work is “design born from the memory of the heart, of traditions and emotional recall” according to curator Paola Antonelli, that “brings together east and west, craft and technology”.
The exhibition includes a number of “king size” pieces, sculptural chairs such as the Bell Metal Horse Chair, as well as more famous pieces such as those designed for Cappellini, Moroso, Magis and Alessi. And that’s not all, the exhibition includes a brand new piece that the gallery will be offering in a limited edition.
