An installation in Utrecht evokes loneliness from Covid-19

Author of emblematic artworks and objects (Nuffar, Moirai, Persona), Siba Sahabi has made the evocation of the cultural exchange between East and West the driving force of her works. With Monáx, an outdoor installation commissioned by the RAUM collective and visible in Utrecht as part of the Living Apart Together exhibition, this "poetic designer" - as she likes to define herself - turns her gaze to the urgencies of our present, finding an opportunity to narrate the solitude experienced during this year of pandemic.

Two and a half meters high, the installation is made up of three mirrored blocks, each composed of two triangles and arranged in the shape of a circle. Within their perimeter, the blocks contain seats that allow the visitor to observe their own image, opening up to a reflection on the theme of loneliness and its invisibility within the social fabric. The spaces between the blocks, on the other hand, want to evoke the opening towards the outside offered by the windows, a metaphor for the desire of a projection towards a collective life finally found again.
