The actors in this nocturnal open-air
performance are the marble saints that
populate the spires of the Duomo in
Milan.
The theme of their dialogues is
love, in all its interpretations, well
expressed by the four Greek words that
explain its different shades of meaning:
erao, fileo, agapao, stergo. In other
words love for desire, friendship,
predilection and respect.
The facade of
the Duomo is illuminated with four
different shades of red – crimson,
amaranth, carmine and scarlet – as
metaphors for these meanings. The
statues then light up two at a time and
begin to converse on the subject using
the words of Nietzsche, Savinio,
Boccioni, Gadda, Hillesum, Pasolini,
Malaparte and Pavese, while the words
are projected onto the facade. A choir
provides the interval to the lights and
words with Monteverdi's Madrigals.
The
Dialogues on Love, performed on the
evenings of November 3 and 4, was the
first event in the Lucegugliavoce series,
conceived and directed by Attilio
Stocchi as part of the project Domus
vivendi, sponsored by the Milan City
Council to focus attention on one of the
city’s most symbolic buildings. Silvia Monaco
