Go ahead for the Giacometti Foundation

Ten years after the death of Annette Giacometti, the widow of Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), her dream has finally become reality – that of establishing a foundation for the legacy left by the Swiss sculptor. A collection estimated to be worth 122 million euro that thanks to a decree passed on 6 January signed by prime minister Raffarin and minister for culture Aillagon, will be protected, put to use and open to the public.

So why the delay? Issues mostly of a legal nature have slowed down dealing with the inheritance. Head of the new association will be photographer Sabine Weiss whilst Mary-Lisa Palmer, long time collaborator with Giacometti, has been commissioned to put together a catalogue of his work. E.S.
