In a quiet residential neighbourhood of Žilina, punctuated mainly by single-family dwellings surrounded by gardens, the building designed by Plural studio from Bratislava fits in with measured composure and in conformity with the neighbouring volumes without, however, renouncing its contemporary and sophisticated character in comparison with the more traditional neighbouring constructions. The house, distributed on three levels, one underground and two above ground, is characterised by an essential cubic volume in light - coloured reinforced concrete and by full-height windows evoking Le Corbusier; on the west side, a light metal grid structure protects a green patio and acts as a visual filter towards the street; on the north and south sides, two sculptural elements - respectively a triangular canopy marking the entrance to the building and covering the garage, and a staircase block - are annexes that do not alternate the clear and rigorous geometry of the dwelling.
A villa in Slovakia winks at rationalism
From the use of exposed structural concrete and large windows to the flexible and functional layout and the meticulous study of light in space, this elegant and contemporary house designed by Plural is inspired by Le Corbusier.

A structure with reinforced concrete load-bearing baffles arranged around the perimeter on the south and north sides allows for maximum flexibility in the distribution of the floors: the ground floor is configured as a completely open space with living room, kitchen and dining area; the basement, lit by a patio on the south side of the house, independent and accessible directly from the garden, includes a multifunctional room, a sauna and the technical room; the first floor houses four bedrooms and their services, accessible from two adjacent rooms. The large windows overlooking the garden to the east and the street to the west allow for diffuse light, accentuated by light-coloured finishes and furnishings with a pleasant tactile texture - from the exposed concrete of the envelopes, to the grit flooring, to the wood of the furniture - that balance the ethereal aura of the exterior.
