The summer retreat designed by Bornstein Lyckefors on the island of Kallaxön in northern Sweden is a cliché: wooden structure, iconic pitched roof, light green exterior colour to integrate the building into the pristine natural landscape. The Granholmen is the ideal refuge in which we would all like to go to get away from the metropolitan chaos. Isolated from traditional settlements, where the houses are usually painted in the typical dark red, the painting of the wood is homogenized instead to the color of the copper roof. Pine wood, on the other hand, is not treated for interiors, which are open and flexible. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, living room, dining room and a staircase leading to the upper level where the private rooms are located. The windows are arranged in such a way as to completely open the ground floor to the outside and frame the idyllic scenery.
